I loved this book so much. If you're a fan of Sara Bareilles and have ever seen her live, reading this book is like attending one of her performances. I felt like she was speaking directly to me, unveiling her deepest, darkest secrets. This book is beautiful, raw, and emotional, just like her music.
Audiobook: I was really charmed by hearing her read her book. She's really appealing and funny and relatable. These were a bunch of essays and some had some great moments of writing, but honestly, others felt more like anecdotes better suited for a magazine interview or liner notes or stage banter than for a book persay. I think she's aware that she had trouble writing the book, but there isn't much book here. It was a fast read for sure. A great vacation read. It's a book for people already fans, but there's not a ton of there there. I think she's better suited to songwriting than prose writing.
Reading this book helped me see Sara Bareilles as a real person, and not an unearthly goddess, but it made me love her even more.
This is a fun, quick read, especially if you're already familiar with her work.

i am probably extremely biased because i adore sara bareilles and i think everything she touches turns into gold, but this was an absolute delight. she is so witty, and funny all the while staying true to herself. i loved hearing how each song came to life. could not get enough.
This was a fun read! It really does sound like Sara— like her interviews, her music, and her personality on stage. It felt very nostalgic and connected me more to her personality and music. I loved it.
Oh, I love Sara Bareilles! I saw her in concert in 2012, and that was way too long ago. I had so much fun and related to her awesome concert personality. She’s fantastic, and I’m always looking for another opportunity to see her on stage.
Keeping that in mind, I may be biased as to how much I loved this book. She told stories about her life through the songs that she has written - both of which I want to know more about (especially the songs.) When I started reading, I had no idea how much I would understand how she felt in the music industry. Her book is just as relatable and personal as her music. I was swept up by her story and finished this book in an afternoon. Fantastic!

I just really love Sara Bareilles. I recommend the audiobook, cause I also love the way she speaks, sings, and tells her own story.
I purchased this book as part of Sara's book tour and signing way back in October, skimmed it that same night, and then read the foreword and two more pages in March. I only just now got around to finishing it (in 2 days), but in my defense I don't have any leisure reading time during the school year.
Where I mean to go with this is pretty muchbragging talking about actually having met Sara and experienced her as a person, in addition to already loving her as an artist. Sara (after you've read someone's autobiography, you get to call them by their first name) is such a kind, funny, and genuine person and I am so proud to say I am a fan.
Now that I've talked about SB as a person and artist (although only briefly), I can begin to talk about her as an author--which really only means I'm going to gush about her even more because I somehow love her more. It's always surprising to me when someone (especially a celebrity) who is recognized for one particular talent is equally as talented in other areas, mostly because I have 0 talents. What I really mean by this is that I enjoyed this book immensely not only as a fan of Sara, but as a fan of good writing and storytelling; I was captivated by everything Sara said and came away touched by the sharing of her experiences. Maybe non-fans wouldn't have as much of an interest in reading this book, and I understand that, but being exposed to the incredible whirlwind that is Sara Bareilles is sure to make anyone a fan of the lovely lady as a whole.
P.S. In semi-related news, I am nowhere near NYC, but I can't wait until Waitress makes its national Broadway debut because I am dying to consume as much of Sara's artistry as possible.
