Such a great audio book! Sara starts each chapter by singing part of one of her songs. I listen to audio books on double speed and went back to replay the start of each chapter on regular speed.
Sara's memoir is wonderful because she is just completely honest. She struggles with many of the same things many of us do and she just speaks openly about them. She is just trying to do her best in life and feels like she doesn't really know what she's doing half the time. It is nice to hear other adults admit that they are just pretending to know what they are doing.
I don't know if everyone will connect with this book on the same level I did, but I still recommend it. I have loved her music for years but I am now crushing on her as a person.

funny
fast-paced
It (surprisingly) takes a lot for a book to make me emotional, but this had me sobbing. I loved every sentence.
It just makes you love Sara even more. So genuine and down to earth, with a realistic component that reminds us we are all human no matter how many people recognize our name.
This book was so wonderful and beautifully written; the chapter where she writes letters to her past self was definitely the stand out for me and is something I know I'll reread often. <3
Can I give this more than 5 stars??
GOOD GRIEF THIS WAS AMAZING.
I've been a fan of Sara since Little Voice, and I have used her as a muse in both my writing and vocal training. So yes, when I saw that she released a book, I knew I needed it.
What I DIDNT EXPECT was how much this move would move me. I'm already thinking of re-reading it. Sara is transparent and vulnerable and relatable. I read lots of non-fiction and celebrity books, and I can honestly say this tops Amy, Tiny, Ellen, Lena, and Drew (Wildflower was so good though, so this is a legitimate statement.)

As Sara Bareilles states in the epilogue,
I think she accomplished this. She clearly wrote this memoir for those who need to be told to be.. wait for it.... brave. We learn how she, a flawed human with anxiety, self-loathing, and a chronic inability to cowrite, has been able to accomplish so much in her young music career. Spoiler alert: she just did stuff, even if she was scared, even if she didn't think she could do it, even if she didn't do it very well the first time. This short memoir has plenty of fun facts for her fans as well, like the real story behind "Love Song" and a few tales of touring mishaps. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer.
I didn't want to use this opportunity to give redundant information, or to write my own extended Wikipedia page. I wanted to make confessions and admissions in the hope of making myself surrender a little bit more than I have.

Such a moving, empowering book about struggling to love yourself or be true to yourself. I've always loved Sara Bareilles, she's one of my favorite artists to sing loudly in the car to when I'm feeling the need for cheering or for finding more strength for getting through the day. This book was a great window into the world of someone who seems so strong, but also has to fight to find the beauty inside. I loved it. Another one of those books I would recommend to all the girls out there who need proof that you can be true to yourself and find your dreams.
A pure, honest, sensitive account of the relatable personal journey of a magnificent songwriter and singer with a big heart, lots of humor, and all the right words.
Nothing groundbreaking in the way of memoirs, but I always appreciate a well told, well read celebrity story. The audiobook for this one was particularly rewarding as Sara sang the song that inspired each essay before reading the essay. I never really listened to her much before reading this, but I intend to spend some time with her music now.
