I'm a huge fan of Sara Bareilles, and even though I don't really read biographies, I enjoyed this book a lot. I loved how the book was broken up into her different songs which outlined different phases of her life. That was unique and enjoyable. I also loved learning about her song-writing process, which is something that always interests me about my favorite artists. The book was very inciting and inspiring. I learned so much about her that I never knew before, and that just enhances her music even more.

I forgot how much I love Sara as a person and an artist. Listening to this book with her narrating it and singing a little bit every chapter was very comforting <3

This might have been the easiest to read book I've ever picked up in my life. Sara Bareilles writes in such a casual way that you feel like best friends just reading it. There is a great balance of inspirational, you-can-do-it material and laugh out loud commentary on her own life. I hope she is able to write again, no matter what the subject matter.

I find it impossible to not love Sara and all of her work. As this book solidified for me, she is someone who is wholeheartedly dedicated to her craft. She attacks all of her projects with gusto while working hard to remain unabashedly herself and not bending the pressures of the industry. This book felt like an accurate portrayal of her as an artist and person. Watching her success grow over the years, culminating in her current work on the Broadway musical Waitress has been incredible and I can't wait to see how much she'll add to this memoir as her career continues to flourish.

"This book is some of my story and some of my songs.
It was a labor of avoidance, then hate, then love, and I'm glad I stayed around long enough to witness the transformation.
I wrote it for you.
It sounds like me."

Thank you Sara Bareilles for writing this book! It was a beautiful book, full of heart, honesty and laughter. The story starts with Sara's childhood, through university, then her budding singing career, and extends all the way to her latest project, writing the music and lyrics for the musical Waitress, with each chapter told through the lens of one of her best-loved songs. The power of music at each stage of Sara's life is beautiful and inspiring to read!

This book made me laugh and cry and I am so thankful to Sara for opening up to us, her fans, and tell her story. Reading Sounds Like Me really does feel like you are having a conversation with Sara herself, and I loved every sentence of it!

This book marked the beginning of my Sara Bareilles phase. I was given it as a gift after being told that I sound like Sara at a voice lesson and it made me fall in love with her and her music. I’ve re-read it a few times now that I am more familiar with her music and it gets better and better every time.

Fantastic! I listened to the audiobook version, which is read by Sarah herself (as well as a few other people reading their contributions to the book, including Ben Fold reading his forewords). I love when author's narrate their own audiobooks, but with this book it feels essential to understanding Sarah's work and the often intangible magic of music.

This book is a collection of essays, each tied to one of Sarah's songs. She sings each song, a cappella, before each essay. That is such a treat, but it also sets the emotional tone for each essay.

Sarah makes fun of herself a lot, in the book, especially talks about not feeling like she's really skilled as a writer. Which is just so untrue. This book demonstrates, what fans of her music already know, she is a wonderful storyteller. What she shares in these stories, much like her music, is funny, touching, and thoughtful.

I am so glad I found this audiobook at my library. It is one of my favorite reads of this year and possibly of all time. I highly recommend it.

Make sure you listen all the way to the end. They included outtakes from recording. Where Sarah makes fun of her work writing, swears A LOT, and does a pretty good impression of Yoda.
