The story starts out with a horrific crime that shocks this small, tranquil town of Rivers Crossing to its core. Mack, a devoted wife, business owner, and loyal friend, finds herself in her own version of hell when her husband goes missing the same night her best friend, Shelby, is attacked in her restaurant. Shelby wasn't supposed to survive the attack - and thus, she is determined to find answers. A year and a half later, the town seems to be recovering until signs point to the danger still being present. The more Shelby and Mack dive into this mystery, the more secrets are uncovered. Now everyone is on edge, even the retirement home residents at Oleanders.
Florence, from Oleanders, wants to start a new hobby and decides to recruit her fellow residents to help her start a podcast to solve the mystery of what happened to Shelby that fateful night. Florence is my favorite character from this book. She is smart, funny, sarcastic, and downright nosy. She won’t take “no” for an answer and will do whatever she can in her power to find the truth and get justice.
This story really captures what it’s like to live in a small town: everyone knows everyone, but you can only trust a select few. Glass builds tension and fear on every page, propelling you through the story. Once you think you have figured something out, another clue is revealed to keep you guessing. This book is the perfect mix of mystery, suspense, heart, and humor in this small-town thriller.
