Thanks to my friend, Tamara, I’ve been reading and enjoying the Liz Talbot mysteries for several years now. Susan M. Boyer has a shiny new series, Carolina Tales, featuring Hadley Cooper, a private investigator.

About the book: “With dry wit and delightful dialogue, Susan M. Boyer delivers an eccentric, vegan gumshoe sure to appeal to any fan of Southern women’s fiction. With her merry band of sassy friends, Hadley Cooper is a Lowcountry detective you won’t soon forget.

Big Trouble on Sullivan’s Island is the engaging first book in the Carolina Tales series. If you like strong heroines, quirky sisterhoods, and plenty of Southern charm, then you’ll love Susan M. Boyer’s wonderful whodunit.“

I love it when books are set in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, an area I’m fortunate to know well after attending graduate school in South Carolina. Hadley is a charming, lovable character, and the mystery kept me guessing. The threads of friendship with lots of buried secrets added extra layers to the story. I absolutely loved this start to the series and can’t wait for more from Hadley. There’s a reason Susan Boyer’s books are all so well-loved. They sparkle.

I received a gifted copy.

Quirky, funny, mystery and just a touch of violence. Much needed palate cleanser.

This is such an enjoyable book! The plot has enough twists to make it interesting until the end. The characters are developed in masterful ways. They seem like friends you’d like to have, at least friends I would like to have.there is a mix of humor, suspense, and love stories sprinkled throughout the book, which is delightful! Can’t wait to read the next one!

First book in a great new series for Susan M Boyer. Looking g forward to more !

I sat on this awhile. I was afraid if I liked @susanmboyer ‘s new series and characters it might feel like a betrayal to Liz and Nate and Colleen and all of Stella Maris. Holy City Smokes…. What a great new series! All the intrigue of murder set in my home state and one of the most beautiful places, Sullivan’s Island, with family angst intertwined. The author stated that she wanted Hadley to be the opposite of Liz, but Hadley’s character is just as real as Liz. Can’t wait for book 2 and 3 and 4 and….

Susan Boyer has once again used her unique gift of words to introduce us to a whole new set of characters and to another charming area of the Low Country. Hadley Cooper is a PI with a lot of baggage, mainly because her mother died when she was 17 and only then did she find out who her father was (and he didn’t know she existed) and that she had a half-brother only two days younger than she. Big Trouble on Sullivan’s Island is a great name for this start to a fabulous new series of Carolina Tales. There is a lot of trouble on Sullivan’s island stemming from a current murder and secrets from the past. Hadley Cooper may not be Liz Talbot, but she is every bit as interesting and entertaining as are her friends.

I read Big Trouble on Sullivan's Island because I was looking a to fulfill a reading challenge I took part. Hadley Cooper, is a feisty and determined private investigator with a heart of gold, who must navigate the complexities of small-town secrets and lies to uncover the truth behind a murder that threatens to upend her life. Big Trouble on Sullivan's Island promises a gripping mystery with a strong, relatable heroine and a dash of Southern charm.
The fact that Hadley was a vegan, and was mentioned far too many times it became rather comical. It will make a enjoyable TV series.
