The first time I spent the whole night reading, I was 12 years old, and the book was "The Moving Finger", by Agatha Christie. I'm almost sure she's the author I read the most, but it's been years since I last read anything by her (maybe 20 years).

So the other day I was rewatching a show I like, and the main female character was reading "At Bertram's Hotel". I've been thinking about rereading some Agatha Christie, because of the upcoming Ken Branagh "Murder on the Orient Express" movie. It's got murder and mystery... what's not to like, right?

Unfortunately, I was not even remotely intrigued by the story in "Bertram's". I think the main problem, for me, was that the characters are not at all relatable. There is no empathy. They're like cardboard cut-outs without any depth. I just didn't care!

And now I'm wondering if all AC's books are like this and I just remember them wrong...

This is not among my favorites. It feels more like an interesting idea that Christie is exploring in writing than it does a complete story. And Miss Marple doesn't play nearly as large a role as I would prefer her to.
