Another short and breezy Miss Marple mystery. It's easy to tell this comes from the latter part of Christie's work: it reads almost biographical in how much it is about grappling with a globalized world, at the same time nostalgic about the imaginary of edwardian London slipping away into myth (to which I blow raspberries) and also very much accepting of (or resigned to, but I read it as almost optimistic) the inevitability of that change.
The mystery itself is fine if a little secondary to the theme, but as always the cast is a fun bunch of weirdos and the banter is solid.

While this book does a better job than others, Miss Marple's presence is lacking for the bulk of the middle of the book. Instead we follow Chief-Inspector Davy on his job working the case. But this is a book in the Miss Marple series, it the Davy’s series. So frustrating.
The mystery itself was okay. No deaths until near the end. It’s definitely not my favourite as I felt little interesting in the solution.

Middling. More fun when Ms Marple is more involved.

It's rare that I liked the "movie" better than the book, but I do have to say I much prefer the Joan Hickson TV version of this story. If I hadn't watched it a million times, I wouldn't know and would have given this story another star. See kids, read the book before the movie!
