i’ve read both archer’s voice and most of all you and enjoyed them immensely… but this one just missed the mark.

if i look at this objectively— it’s probably a 3.5-4 stars. this book was just not for me. i didn’t really like the mmc, i mean, i felt for him and all but compared to archer and gabriel?? the fmc, however, was really great. mia sheridan does a good job with her fmcs. i feel like in a lot of romance novels (or just romantic relationships in any book) the fmc can come off as dumb or less than the mmc but that hasn’t been the case in three books i have read of hers. jessie is intelligent and mature and i loved her!

i wish we got more of the side characters. i really enjoyed frankie and ben. they were supportive and funny. (nick was great as well)
i wanted less of the translations that jessie did— they’re cool and all but i swear those translations took up like 15 pages of the book. i ended up skimming a ton of them.

ugh this BOOK! so beautiful and devastating all at the same time. second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes, and this book does it so well. the idea of fate bringing people back together when they need it most is so heartwarming. i love how supportive Jessie was of Callen and how badly she wanted to help him, but she knew that she needed to wait until he was ready to help himself. Callen’s backstory was the devastating part of this book, his fathers harsh words following him all the way into adulthood despite all of his success. and I am SO PROUD of Callen! while he was kind of a dirt bag in some regards, i think he made up for it. and the letter he wrote Jessie??? oh god, i MELTED! i think Mia Sheridan does romance so well and I always have a good time reading her books.
