It is my first time to actually pick up a book that I dnfed, just wanted to point out because it NEVER happened. It was just nagging me that I have not finished the book. I occasionally think about the books that I dnf but never actually go back to them. Oh wait, I did once before but dnfed that for a second time so I don't count it lol.
Okat as for the book itself, oh boy, it was hard. I mean, as for someone who didn't know anything about Egyptian mythology, it was a though ride. It was so intense with all the names, who is who and everything. Well, when it comes to Greek mythology, it is easy peasy, since I read definitely more about the ancient Greeks so I was fine reading the previous books. Am I glad that I read the book? Yes I am. Perhaps I was not in a mind set before, I dunno. But since I pretty much loved every book by Rick Riordan, I knew I should give it another chance.

I had a lot of fun with this book. The was it was told was a little peculiar in the beginning, for me at least, and sometimes I wasn't sure about the interrupting each other and things like that, but I actually got used to it quite fast and in the end I did think it fit the story very well.
Sadie and Carter were pretty likable, although in some situations I felt like they fell a little short character development-wise, but I did really like both of them, and I thought it was quite nice to have an African American main character (and also I did think it was alright that his struggles because of that were at least heavily implie).
I was surprised to find that this story is set in the same universe as Percy Jackson, while at the same time being different enough. I kind of thought this would be just Percy Jackson but with Egyptian Gods, but it really wasn't. It's still about Gods and the World in Danger of course, and it is similar, so I'd say if you like PJ, you'll probably like this as well, but it is quite different in world building, so maybe also not. I personally enjoyed it a lot. (I would have enjoyed PJ just with other Gods as well, I just think this is also quite neat.)
The conclusion in the end was very satisfying for me, and overall it was a really good first book in my opinion. Will probably read the rest at some point (although I have some other books by Riordan on my list first).

Rick Riordan wrote the excellent Percy Jackson series of novels. This is the first book in a new series of novels involving a brother and sister Carter and Sadie Kane. The Percy Jackson novels involved Greek Gods - these are about the Eqyptian Gods.
If you liked Percy Jackson, you will probably like this novel too.
