What a fun little duology! The story and “witch hunting” was not as good in this one. Some points felt slow while others felt rushed. But the love story was lovely and it gave me the same happy feeling as TOG!

The first book was so much better...

I loved the first book. The chemistry was apparent, the plot progressed quick, and I loved the chase. Book Two just could not live up to it.

We pick up after Cressida has taken power and she's working on taking over the throne. This master plan includes Rune marrying a prince and convincing him to let Cressida use his army. It's up to Gideon to kill Rune so the plan can't happen.

This story was so repetitive. "I'm double crossing you. No, I'm double crossing you. Well guess what, I'm double crossing your double crossing after I double cross them too!" Ridiculous. On top of that, the other plot progressor was "Haha, caught you! Now I'll kill you. Wait, I feel for your character. Quick, run away." So. Many. Times. This could have been a hundred pages less if you just took out some of the repetitive scenes.

The chemistry was also missing from this novel. Rune and Gideon had that cute cat and mouse routine going last book and the spark was there. It felt forced this time. There was a lot of last-minute romance and "I gotta kill you next time I see you so might as well make out quick."

I was really looking forward to this read, but it just wasn't that great in my opinion. Which is really unfortunate since I enjoyed Book One so much.
