Last year there were a couple Agatha Christies that I liked and a couple that were flops for me, so I was hoping for a good one this time around - and I got it! I really enjoyed this one! It was a little easier to follow than some of the other ones - not too many characters and a more logical flow. I also liked most of the characters and their little side plots. I think there was a little bit of humor in this one, too, with Poirot accepting the changes that come with aging. It was all wrapped up neatly (just how I like it), and I didn't find it as far-fetched as some of the other Poirot mysteries I've read.

I really enjoyed the solution to this mystery. I didn't see it coming, although I am quite bad at guessing the culprit in mysteries. I actually thought for a moment that the crime was going to be solved by a random bystander putting the pieces together and not by Hercule Poirot himself. No wonder the reveal surprised me!
The first half of the book is a bit slow. It picks up at the 50% mark though, and it becomes clear why such a lengthy set-up was necessary. After that point I was completely drawn in, and I read through the second half quickly.

Come sempre lo stile di Agatha Christie è scorrevole e vola via come il vento; la trama intriga moltissimo e l'assassino non lo scopri mai fino alla fine. È infatti molto strano che si avesse gia il suo nome ad inizio libro, la cosa doveva risultare sospetta ad un lettore di gialli, ed infatti il colpo di scena finale lo ha dimostrato. Uno dei pochi, forse l'unico romanzo dove il colpevole lancia pubblicamente una sfida a Poirot grazie ad una lettera, così si apre il romanzo dell'assassino dell'alfabeto.
Da questo libro sono stati tratti diversi film thriller e secondo me l'idea e la trama è geniale. Mi è piaciuto molto e lo rileggerei diverse volte per riuscire a carpirne gli indizi lasciati dalla scrittrice.

A suitably convoluted plot for Poirot to unravel in his inimitable way. This BBC radio dramatisation is just 90 minutes, which feels a bit too short. I assume rather a lot of the description and context has been edited out.
