this classic is so silly & high drama. i loved it. so glad i chose it as a random library pick

I'm a Dumas fan, but this story wasn't that great, nor were the characters. They were kind of stupid, and it was hard to empathise when the topic was a flower, the love of which consumed the protagonist. I kept wondering if perhaps it was an allegory and I just wasn't getting it. Eventually Dumas made a decent mystery out of it, kind of.... I'm so glad this was a short book though.

I liked the general plot of the story and the pacing a lot but the author’s way of telling the story with forcing his opinions in some parts bothered me a bit. Still a very good classical love story.
slow-paced

Amazing characters, intriguing storyline, unique writing style and surprisingly a fast paced classic!

Really well written and incredibly tense, this was a great introduction to Dumas’ work and writing style! I really loved the setting and historical theme and despite the ending not seeming 100% realistic, I enjoyed it a lot nevertheless…
