Friendships, loyalty, and a look into the past. Each issue just keeps getting better. I've completely fallen in love with this story and the artwork. This would make an amazing anime. Being a movie or a live action show just wouldn't do it the right justice. As an anime it would be beautiful and addicting. It's strange but I'm starting to like the monster. It seems like a very interesting and complex character. I look forward to more issues and volumes.

This was the best installment of Monstress!
I enjoyed it too much!
I don't know if it was because we finally got some more answers, or that there wasn't that much blood spilled.

Nevertheless, the part 6 of Volume 1 of Monstress takes 4.5 stars from me!

Last week I suffered a post-GoT loss after I finished watching season 6, I feel something similar coming with Monstress, as the sixth issue is at this time the last one (good news though, it will continue in August).

The story came to a very nice climax, and I was sitting at the edge of my seat. I was wondering what the story would bring but it was great! I'm really looking forward to the next parts!

On the first volume of Monstress: Awakening:

I was reading Monstress to celebrate the release of the first volume, called Awakening, but as they were placed on Netgalley as separate issues, I decided to judge them as such, as between the issues and the volume the extras can differ somewhat.

Those of you who've been following my reviews know I'm very enthusiastic about this comic. I really loved it. The artwork is amazing, one of the best I've seen and the story is also very good.

If you don't plan to read a lot of comics this year, please do consider Monstress.
If you read a lot of comics, I'm confident that Monstress is on your list, if you haven't read it already!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

A surprise ending, full of action and unexpected events. A fantastic ending!

When I thought the story couldn't get any better, this issue happened. Maika finally gets some answers about her past even though they are like pieces of a puzzle that isn't completely revealed yet. At the same time, she gets to know the demon living within her and gives the reader the change to understand it and the reason for his awakening.

I think I will buy this in paper version when it comes out and I can't wait for the next volume!

This one is a bit quieter than the other issues, but just as fantastic. It left me hungering for more.

A dark and grim story about survival, war, racial conflict, hate and the monsters inside of us (paraphrased from Marjorie Liu's epilogue).

Issue 6: Volume 1 comes to a conclusion. Sadly, not a very satisfying one. There is hope. And there are many questions. And my need to buy the next issues, I guess.

Great comic, wonderful artwork. The plot could be a bit more speedy, it dragged a little in places. But all in all a great read, highly recommended for fans of dark fantasy.

I received this free e-copy from the publisher/author via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

The 6th issue of Monstress ends the first arc of the story, and while I did get some closure, truthfully, this felt more like a beginning.

Maika is captured by some extremely ancient ones who mean to kill her, if possible. They believe that the monster within her is much too dangerous to allow to her to live. However, Maika's enemies, the enemies to all monsters, are also hunting her, and they might just end up on the ancient ones' doorstep.

This issue delved into Maika's past with her mother, and how she obtained the monster and the eye on her chest. We learned where it comes from, and also what it certainly is not. Because of this insight the issue was very satisfying story wise, but like I stated earlier it felt more like a beginning than an end. The comic will pick up again in August 2016 with a new arc, and I cannot wait.

The art in this comic is fantastic with incredible use of deep colors and inky black details. The story is very interesting, if you are the curious type. Truthfully, I do not know if I am emotionally invested in the characters, or just incredibly curious about them and their world, but either way I want to read more!
