A short bittersweet tale about two friends, just trying to get by and have their own farm. George has always taken care of Lennie, whose child like mind and lack of understanding has gotten him into trouble. When get new jobs things slowly fall apart again.
This is short and sweet and at the heart is a story about the friendship of these two guys. Most of the time George can be a jerk towards Lennie, but his frustration with Lennie is understandable. Lennie is sweet lovable guy whom you feel so bad for, because he cannot help how his mind cannot process certain things. The other characters, with exception of Curley and his wife, are likable. Steinbeck is a readable writer with beautiful descriptions Salinas Valley, California and he is a very detailed writer, but not over the top.
