Truman is a sweet story about a quiet little turtle that braves his fears by venturing out of his cage to track down his owner. The illustrations do such a clever job of illustrating the deductive work and dauntingness of the task from a small turtle's perspective. Kids and their adults should enjoy this one and perhaps see a bit of themselves in the turtle's courage in overcoming fears.

This book both inspires me to consider a tortoise pet for my girls and makes me cringe at the thought that they might escape.

This book is SO endearing and lovely with beautiful word choice and illustrations! I absolutely recommend this!!! LOVED LOVED LOVED everything about it!!!

One day, Truman's owner, Sarah, boards a bus with big backpack and heads south (off to school, we can presume). Before she leaves, she tells Truman, "be brave." So Truman determines that he will go board the bus to find her. This is a sweet story about being brave and trying new things - a perfect story to start a new school year.

Experiencing the First Day of school through the eyes of a tortoise. It was okay, I did not really get she was going to school (seeing that it was becoming dark) at first. But the boys liked it.

When Sarah leaves for her first day of school, Truman the Turtle waits impatiently for her to return, but when she doesn’t come back as soon as he’d like, he goes on a quest to find her. But he’s a tortoise. So you can probably already guess that he doesn’t get very far very quickly.
The writing in this book is lovely and the story tugs at your heartstrings. I’ve never had any desire to have a pet turtle until reading this book.
