I read another Patterson (purported) collaboration earlier this year, that one by Rees Jones, and it was terrible. I had already lined up at the library for this one, or I probably wouldn't have bothered, but having read this, it seems clear to me that the second writer or "collaborator" is the one doing the writing and Patterson lends his name for fast publication, because this one is dramatically better. Better written, better plotted, better conceived. This story is PURE fiction a la Aaron Sorkin: the good guy politician who will gladly sacrifice himself politically to save the country from impending doom. White House full of highly placed women--black, white, hispanic. Immigrants who selflessly help to save the country. Big speech by the president at the end denouncing the deep divisiveness in politics and warning about what could have happened to the country because politicans cared more about themselves and power than about the country. Never happen in a million years (or at least not in the foreseeable future), but it's a great escape from the nastry reality we've got out there now. Clearly Clinton sees things my way. Recommended for anyone who thinks that values and country ought to count more than winning.

Enjoyed this fast paced political thriller, lots of adjacent storylines all coming together with a few unexpected twists. Definitely not my usual type and sometimes a bit bogged down by US political talk (sure that some people would enjoy that more than me though).
