This felt pretty dark when I started it but it somehow managed to also be lighthearted at times and I found the ending very satisfying. The romance felt a little rushed to me, it felt like the found family elements worked better, but overall the story left me with a good feeling.

Princess of Souls is a bit of a let-down from the first book in the series. It starts out well and is a cute little adventure until the trials. The last act of the book feels incredibly rushed. Stakes are high throughout the book but problems are dealt with easily and quickly so it feels less gratifying. The final fight scene was unsatisfying and the ending doesn’t feel earned. This is a rare book that I would say should have been 100-200 pages longer.

Cool concept, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the characters, the romance and the banter. While I found it rather fast paced, it felt in some ways like more of an elaborate pitch for a film script than a book that made me pause and reflect. I don't know how else to describe it. I could easily imagine this as a generic YA fantasy film produced by some streaming service.

A bit disappointing since I recall that I quite enjoyed Christo's other book, "To Kill A Kingdom", which takes place in the same world as "Princess of Souls", though in another part of it.

Bad writing: telling not showing, too many short sentences. Boring plot and predictable characters to seal the deal.

The writing wasn’t really doing anything for me
This also felt really young and I just didn’t connect to any of the characters or even the story
