I was reading this book for school and it was definitely not what I expected it to be. Beah had a great story to tell and so many people are glad he did. This book brought so much attention to the problem with children soldiers. It had many great themes of hope that really helped Beah through his journey. The only reason I gave this book 3 stars was because it was a little intense for me and not something I would have read on my own; however if you like book about war and action with great themes of friends ship and hope then you should read this book.
I liked what it was about, but the writing wasn't that good. Sorry <3
Reading a long way gone was overall enjoyable, but I think Beah's method of storytelling made reading this feel dreary at times. Wonderful story nonetheless. Not too long, so it is worth a read.
Even though I read this a while ago, this book had such a huge impact on me that I couldn't give it less than 5 stars.

As I read the book I kept saying I didn’t know if I could finish it because it was absolutely heart wrenching. I can not even imagine the life Ishmael had to face. This was a humbling read that will break your heart and slowly put it back together again.
Ending was abrupt, and would have been worst except I already knew where he ended up. Very chilling and real though, and of course heartbreaking.
