I dont think this is essential to the Snyder/Capullo run, and actually think some issues sour the amazing ending of the previous book. But some issues rule and some don't.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the volume consists of the ending to Snyder's and Capullo's fantastic run, but also consists of some leftovers from the post-Flashpoint and pre-Rebirth era. The actual conclusion for the Snyder/Capullo run is a fantastic, quiet issue that is appropriately optimistic, and serves as a very loving letter to the power of character; it's very sentimental, and emotionally resonant, with Snyder and Capullo delivering some of their best work. Unfortunately, their contribution is only one issue long and would have been more appropriately placed at the end of volume 9. Worse, the removal of their epilogue weakens both volume 9 and 10 as it robs Vol 9 of its real ending, and volume 10 otherwise feels like it's nothing but padding for the real ending of the run. It's almost deceitful to have only Snyder and Capilli credited on the cover when there's a host of other writers and artists contributing to the contents of the book.

Fortunately, the other stories are generally good, with the story from Future's End being the stand out. The other artists also contribute some fantastic work but anyone hoping for a Capullo-dominant book will be disappointed.

And... the New 52 Batman goes out not with a bang, but with a whimper. The only really good addition to this short collection of ephemera is Batman issue 51, which is Scott Snyder's and Greg Capullo's last issue on the series. It is a fitting farewell. Everything else is a waste of time and publishing space. I suppose that a lot of things were up in the air at DC at the time, and the transition away from the generally disappointing New 52 era into DC Rebirth was rather rocky. Most of the art herein is embarrassingly bad, to boot. Oh, well. It was a good run.

Scott Snyder gets Batman.
Graphic novels have changed a lot in the modern era. It's moved from your surface super hero to someone real with flaws.
When I closed the book for Snyder's Epilogue, I see super heroes a little differently-especially Batman.
Through the New 52 series we saw Gotham without Batman, a different person take on Batman's responsibilities, a robot bunny Batman army, biotic Batman, and Batman reborn.
The very last tale, you see that Batman is adaptive. He is who he needs to be in Gotham for whoever needs him. If that isn't the most perfect description of Batman, I don't know what is.
Batman in movies, comic books and all forms is who we need and want him to be. It won't be the same from story to story, but he is still the Dark Knight.
I loved Snyder's series so much. His writing is so different and original. A new voice in graphic novels that I can respect. Did I just say that about a comic book? Real life. I'm picking up another series written by him for sure.
