Experimental and written almost entirely in a series of short tweet-like poems. Could not put this down and cried through the end. Interesting reflection on the way life is lived online and how it bleeds into the “real world” and vice versa.

“Her sister's husband went to a garage sale one afternoon and purchased like fifty Beanie Babies. This, too, was one of the remedies for grief. Someone had sat them on little stools in their display cases, so they would not get tired—of what?—of the long direct daylight of being Beanie Babies. Someone had cared for them. Perhaps everyone was a god with their eye on some small sparrow. Perhaps everyone was the collector of some soft rare commemorative, stitched with a visible heart and worth millions on millions in the mind.”

Absolutely devestating, especially when I scanned the acknowledgements and discovered that it was based on events in the author's life. I took off a fraction of a star bc the front part seemed wholy unrelated to the last half.

This book. I've never been seen so thoroughly, never wanted to laugh and sob so close together.
It's not for the faint of heart. But it is important.

A strange series of vignettes that capture how it feels to live your life online, then a depiction of how it feels to have to step sideways into another reality when living in grief.

No One is Talking About This is a contemporary satire with an experimental style, and while Patricia Lockwood does a number of thing’s undoubtedly well, this book missed the mark for me. It was certainly thought provoking and achieved the feat of being both laugh out loud funny and tear jerkingly devastating, but the narrative fell flat for me. I give Lockwood points for trying something new, but the book felt much more like poetry than novel, and by that I mean the writing felt cryptic and pretentious. Glad I tried it, glad it’s out there, but didn’t love it.
