Dear lord. Imagine writing a whole book shaming people for buying things. Like I love the concept of reducing your consumption, don't get me wrong, but this was very you won't buy a home because of that avocado toast, except it was too outdated for that reference. Seriously if I have to hear about a pension plan or the words Prodigious Accumulators of Wealth again... I did give it two stars because there were some decent ideas and interesting topics and research but those could have been communicated in a book the quarter of the size without all the bad vibes.

TL;DR To be rich earn a lot and spend little.
This book is certainly an interesting case study in the “affluent” in the US in the 90s. It is a little dated I think and it mostly said the above TL;DR in many different ways.

I found this book to be judgmental and preachy. I was looking for some practical advice on budgeting and being frugal and felt like much of the info here was not very helpful. It was well researched, but super boring.

This book had some very interesting information about the habits of the wealthy, but it was very dry in parts. There were lots and lots of statistics. The best parts of the book, in my view, talked about how to teach children about money and how helping children financially often truly hurts them financially. The message of the book, in a nutshell, is BE FRUGAL.

BLUF - Helps to see the hard statistics dealing with real millionaires versus the public view of millionaires, does spend more time showing that most millionaires are 1st generation instead of practical steps one can take beyond general guidance. I imagine the sequel lays out the how-to more.

This is a very interesting read. While it is heavily based on demographic studies and can sometimes seem to simply tick off the various qualities of a typical millionaire, it is very interesting. I found quite a few qualities that I didn't expect to find. Overall, entertaining and informing.
