I wanted to read this book as I've seen a lot of Lucy’s work all over the book community, so I thought I would take a dive and read this book first and holy sh*t, I'm in love and want to read all her work now.

This book has two points of views. The first one is Naomi Witt, she is not having a very good day, she is a runaway bride who has just drove to a small town called Knockemout Virginia, after getting a phone call from her twin sister saying she needed help. Knockemout is described as a rough-around-the-edges town where disputes are settled the old-fashioned way – with fists and beers, in that order. When Naomi gets to town, she realizes her sister hasn’t changed at all. She helps herself to Naomi’s car and cash, Tina leaves her with a little surprise – the niece Naomi didn’t know she had. Now she’s stuck in this town with no car, no job, no plan and no home with an eleven-year-old who acts older that she is. The second point of view is Knox Morgan, he is a bearded, bad boy barber who prefers to live his life the way he takes his coffee: Alone. Unless you count his basset houng, Waylon. Knox doesn’t do drama, even when it comes in the form of the stranded runaway bride. There's a reason Knox doesn’t do complications or high-maintenance women, especially not the romantic ones. But since Naomi’s life imploded right in front of him, after he thought she was Tina. The least he can do is help her out of her jam. And just as soon as she stops getting back into new trouble, he can leave her alone and go back to his life alone. At least that’s the plan until the trouble turns into a real danger.

This book has the potential to be one of my favourite books of 2022. It had everything I absolutely love in a book – Grumpy x sunshine trope, touch her and die trope, hates everyone but her trope, dual POV. I want to be Naomi, I want to go to Knockemout and get myself a Knox Morgan because holy hell that man made me giggle, cry and blush within this book. I love the chemistry and the tension between Naomi and Knox and how Knox is supposed to be this big scary bad guy and yet he completely melts around Naomi and Wayley. I love Knox and Wayley’s relationship and how he will do anything for that kid. I would have loved to see some chapters with the POV from Wayley and maybe Liza because those two like to stir the pot and I LOVED it.

I cannot fault anything about this book, it has been stuck in my brain since I started reading it. I was thinking about it during work, driving home, eating food, drinking coffee. I wanted to devour this book but I didn’t want it to end at the same time. Lucy has just gone on my list of insta-buy authors and favourite authors.

When I found out this was a series, I immediately pre-ordered the second book and I cannot wait to read about Nash as he had such golden retriever energy. I really, really hope we get a book for Lucien and Sloane because I would KILL to know what happened between those two.

This was an amazing read and I loved the character growth. We get to follow along and connect with the FMC as she faces the many problems caused by her sister and saves herself and her niece. The MMC is the perfect example of a strong, supportive partner who feels overwhelmed and scared but eventually recognizes the error of his words and actions. Absolutely loved every second.

There is so much in this book that normally puts me off … but this book was just the right kind of guilty-pleasure, kinda trashy read I needed.
