A mix of Greek mythology, fantasy, and a lot of spice.

Perfect for and romantasy reader, Greek romance, or just a spice it up read.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for my DRC.

I made myself finish this just for the sake of writing a review. I should've stopped when I had the chance

Thank you NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy, and this review is my honest opinion.

The Maiden and the Unseen is a Persephone and Hades retelling with a few liberties taken. I am not totally familiar with the mythology behind Hades/Persephone so I wasn’t bothered in the least. The setting is in modern times, and the chemistry between the two main characters is fantastic. I also enjoyed getting to see inside the minds of both Hades and Persephone- their internal monologues are hilarious and probably a lot like your own. (No? Just me?) The ratio of story to spice is fantastic and well done.

Infidelity was addressed in the story, and it was a little off putting…..not enough to ruin the story by any stretch, but I didn’t care for it. I don’t want to say more because I feel like elaborating could be construed as a spoiler. The texting between characters was a little distracting the way it was presented, but I am not sure I have a good idea of how to do it better. The text bubbles were pretty large, and I kept skipping to reading them which was a problem when there was information written between the text bubbles. They were kind of distracting because of the font/bubble size.

All in all, a good read- interesting plot, plenty of spice, don’t read in public if folks can look over your shoulder. There are some illustrations (1 or 2) included that some folks might not be fans of if they are eavesdropping your book. Course, if they are being nosey…..they get what they get, LOL.

I look forward to reading book 2 and seeing where their story takes them. This is a great way to spend an afternoon, I wasn’t able to put it down until I finished it. Definitely worth a read, especially if you are a fan of Katee Robert or Scarlett St. Clair- this one ranks right up there with these authors.

The Maiden and The Unseen is a modern Hades and Persephone retelling with a twist. Set in NYC, Hades is a business mogul while Persephone is living life like a mortal. That is until their paths cross.

This is a STEAMY book about not only finding love but finding yourself in the process. The spice was immaculate for me and the art was an amazing addition.

This gets a solid 4.5 from me. Could have easily been a 5 if the inner monologue was changed (if I read lies one more time I was going to throw my kindle). And the miscommunication….you guys are hundreds if not thousands of years old, learn how to talk to each other.

Also, there are 2 authors and i would have never guessed, their voices are so cohesive. Overall a great read and I am already on to book 2!

Thank you NetGalley and Rose & Star Publishing for an arc in exchange for my honest feedback. All opinions are my own.

The Maiden and The Unseen is the first book the a series of mythology retellings by authors Jeanette Rose and Alexis Rune. This book is the first in a trilogy with subsequent books to come that follow different characters. In this retelling, some of the gods and goddesses have decided to come to the mortal world so they need someone to kind of keep them in check. Hades is in charge of this, staying in the shadows and keeping everything running smoothly. When he has a run in with an angry Persephone about her bank account, he offers her a job. In close proximity with each other, Hades realizes that Persephone is his fated queen and that is just not going to work for him. The two try to stay away from each other but fate has other plans for them.

Fated mates is literally my god tier romance trope. I absolutely adore it and this book really just cements that love. I liked Hades in this book but I absolutely loved Persephone. She is exactly what I have been wanting in a Persephone character. Most of the ones I read about are super naive and it makes them seem unintelligent. This Persephone has agency and we love to see it! She is based on the model Ashley Graham so we get that plus sized representation too.

This story get steamy fast and stays in that lane so if you don’t like smutty books, this isn’t one for you. But it was definitely for me. The characters had so much chemistry. I also think that the issues the characters had keeping them apart were valid and not over the top, which I always hate. The side characters are fantastic and I can’t wait to learn more about them as the books progress.

When I picked this up I didn’t realize it was a trilogy and as I was getting close to the end, I knew there weren’t enough pages left for what I wanted to happen! I can’t get the second book soon enough!

Thank you so much to Rose and Star publishing for the arc review opportunity!

This was such a good read! So much tension and angst between these two characters, and the chemistry is explosive! Can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!
