This series continues to be great. Provided it avoids a catastrophic ending of Game of Thrones proportions, it will be my favorite graphic novel series I've read thus far. Just pure fun.

Improvement on the last and some alright stories running through, particularly Jesses mum coming to light, however I find the continued use of white men writing in such a way to use racist language, be it nazis or slavery themes, leaves a sour note. It’s not done in a way of sticking up for rights but rather as a shock factor which feels like it’s just trying for a cheap thrill. Use good writing to invoke emotion, not lazy, half hearted racism and attempts at humour through that medium. The Boys tended to do it too and whilst I’m not being PC police, I think there’s a line that Ennis and co fall over a bit too often.

It’s the end of the line for outlaw preacher Jesse Custer as he wraps up his search for God. (Literally. The Big Man’s absconded from Heaven & left us on our own.) His sidekicks—gun-toting girlfriend Tulip & drug-devouring vampire Cassidy—again ride shotgun on a very unholy pilgrimage to kick the Lord’s ass. Volumes 5 & 6 take us where comics aren’t supposed to go—Nazi dominatrixes, ultra-violent apostles & a guy who likes meat way too much. It’s the gleeful nihilism & battered friendships that hold this unapologetically blasphemous series together. Well, that & the sodomy.

There's the LOLs I love. Preacher Book 5 is fun as Jesse continues on his trip solo after his heart break. He takes a prolonged stop in a town called Salvation and encounters Odin Quincanon. I especially enjoy Jesse's peyote trip on the dock with his dog. No joke,Preacher is the best graphic novel. I need more graphic novels like this in my life. Dark humor is life.

Preacher is so wild that even though this one feels like the calm before the storm, it's only relatively speaking, so the Quincannon stuff, despite how ridiculous it is, followed by Tulip's origin, feels lax compared to what's come before. In that though, it's some much needed introspection, and a great way to build up the climax without being overly dramatic.

This was terrific! I have always found the scene in Scarface, where Tony has just killed Carlo and he goes into Elvira's bedroom, wakes her softly from sleep and tells her to come with him is the most romantic moment in a movie ever. Messed up, but romantic. This entire volume had the feel of that scene!

Jesse and Tulip are meant to be. They've know it since they first laid eyes on each other and despite Cass's love (or imagined love) for Tulip, nothing will stand in the way of this couple. I absolutely rejoiced in their eventual reunion and cannot wait for the next installment.

I also can't wait for the series to return to AMC so I can see Jesse (Dominic Cooper) and Tulip (Ruth Negga) onscreen together!
