Review is for the individual online comics that make up this collection.

I’ve fallen a little out of love with Injustice with each progressive installment, and though Year 5 is not quite as disappointing as Year 4, it still feels like the creative team isn’t quite sure how to end the series. It’s still more of the same with a battered Insurgency taking on the Regime, and more of bringing in every possible character from the DC Universe that can be fit in within the pages. Telling a tight “what-if” story feels as though it has been abandoned for quantity (both in terms of issues and character over-saturation) over quality. There’s no big build-up to the grand climax, no sense of moving towards something momentous. I keep waiting for a big moment, and it keeps not coming.

Varied and interesting world and dialogue, but it does make Superman look like a knuckle-dragging buffoon and by association, Wonderwoman, Damien and the others who are enabling his blundering. Villains should be compelling or at least threatening, but this Superman is as oblivious as the Red Son Superman and it’s hard to take him seriously. That being said, there are some fun/interesting moments between Selina and Harley Quinn, Damien and Alfred, and Deadman...with himself. Actually Deadman’s narration was helpful.

It's hard to believe how long this series has been going, and how much better it has been than it had any right to be. Finally in the fifth year, the character writing/script is noticeably worse. The season's arc and style demands constant fist fights between many different factions, all at once. Most of the dialogue feels more like the writer's personal notes-to-self instead of actual, witty verbiage. Still, it's so damn fun to read! Harley remains one of the most interesting and well-written characters, and I care about some of the others, as well as what sort of end game we'll see play out.

Moving away from obscure ridiculous constant gods and magical beings, this gets back to the core of what made Injustice great and interesting. Honestly you could skip years 3 + 4 and not miss much, just jump to here.

I do wonder what is left for Batman to try at this point in the struggle, but the volume touches and hints at his plans.

Only part I liked was the Damian story and even that has wonky Mike S Miller art.

Loved all 40 issues of it (plus the Annual)! I mean, I may say this is better than the mainstream DCU post-Rebirth, right?

But alas, it's the Injustice Universe, and I can call it apples and oranges.
