This is bad but hilariously bad in places. Some of the dialogue and plot is unbelievable, such as knowing what a female character's body looks like like but not anything else and of course you sleep with people that are suspects in an investigation after meeting them for 5 minutes. A lot of the plot is left unresolved, perhaps for later in the series but I don't think I'll carry on.

Great read!

This book took me some time to get into and actually take the time to read, over all towards the beginning it started off super slow but then picked up towards chapter 20. This is definitely a.5 star read for me! Those who read this won't be disappointed! Happy reading!

I struggled with this book! Not because of poor writing, but because I spent an inordinate amount of time hiding behind the couch (once I realized that you can't fast-forward scary scenes in a book, this was my next solution). The writing is savage and I mean that with all respect to James Harper. He writes those moments - you can't turn away but you really don't want to look.

So, graphic warning aside: We have a private investigator whose life is upside down. He's not an unlikeable character, but things just aren't working out for him. In an attempt to set things right with the universe, he takes on a pro-bono cold case to track down both a missing son and a missing father. In my opinion (which no one asked for, but here it is anyway...) Evan Buckley stumbles a number of times and it makes him more believable than someone who dramatically turns his life around and becomes the perfect saint. I didn't always like what he did, but he was very real.

There is a certain something about this book that sets it firmly in the past (a spoiler I will not reveal no matter how many bags of potato chips you wave under my nose) and since this is a re-issue, it is something that should have been addressed.

I read this quickly which translates as I was engaged and enjoying the story. This genre is a little too hard-boiled for me and it might be a while before I get back to Evan, but one day...

I foolishly started the Evan Buckley series on book 15 and not surprisingly found I was missing a lot of the back story that was covered in the preceding books.

Do yourself a favour and don't make the same mistake. This book, no.1 in the series is a great read, a perfect introduction to Evan and sets you up for a much better experience of the later books which I hope to read myself in order!

Harper keeps the action well paced, has you wanting to read another chapter and doesn't bore you with fillers and unneccessary information. I'm sure if I re-read the book I started on now I'd be giving a much better rating.

The beginning of the book was really boring, i was always contemplating not finishing it up, but then, it wasn't so bad that i hated it so much.
The lead character wasn't likable, he was actually playing with my nerves the whole time.
What was written so good was guillory's character

Great Book!

Quick read. Intriguing storyline. Although the mystery in this book is solved, the book still ends on a cliffhanger. I’m definitely interested in reading more in this series.
