Centered on interesting takes on the Romantics & their interconnected lives, this book is a comprehensive look at, first and foremost, their relationships with one another. Overall, I think that this is a worthwhile read on the topic, and would recommend it to anyone particularly interested in the Romantics & their bonds. I think it especially could serve as a good starting point for people interested in learning about the individuals beyond their work.

The author’s occasional framing of situations like the complicated relationship between sisters Marianne Hunt & Bess Kent and the way Claire Clairmont’s opinion on free love bittered with age as surprising is my primary complaint here. That aside, I enjoyed the way the various biographical narratives are woven together in this book. Occasionally, while the author doesn’t seem to be trying to water the individuals down to characters, and in fact does quite well at presenting their humanity & their flaws, it comes off at times as if there’s a struggle to reconcile the “big picture” narrative of their lives with their individual acts and statements.
