This book is about Ella Harper and takes place soon after her mother's death. She is struggling to make ends meet and finish high school on her own when her nonexistent father's friend, Callum Royal, appears and demands she come live with him and his four sons. I thought this book was sooo good. I really love the enemies to lovers trope and this series does it to perfection.

I've updated my long-ass rant review because I wanted to specifically make a point of the literal serial rapist in this book whose punishment is literally a stupid prank at a party. But also, I hated this book. Like, I've really never hated a book so much in my life. Every time it pops into my head I feel my blood pressure rise because it makes me so angry. There is nothing redeemable about this book and I can see why the authors didn't even have their real names attached to the book or why it's self-published. I don't care how harsh that sounds. This book is trash and I could not get rid of it fast enough.

The rest of this review contains spoilers but I won't hide them because I don't recommend reading the book to find out for yourself.

Shortly after the horrific scene in which Daniel tries to rape Ella it's revealed he's done this multiple other time to other girls (who he ensures go to other schools so that no one knows he's a SERIAL RAPIST).

Not only does Ella literally have no traumatic side effects of being sexually assaulted and very nearly raped, her (and the brothers and the only two girls she can apparently tolerate) solution is to prank Daniel and show the school how small his dick is. That's it. They don't go to the police. They don't report him to anyone in an authority position. They prank him. This boy is a serial rapist. And it's causally brushed off like it's not a big deal. It's essentially a joke. Don't include sexual assault in your book as an insipid plot point without showing real-world consequences. This is a serial rapist that they've just made one big joke of. It's not funny and It's not okay. Even if this book had been otherwise good it would have instantly been turned into a one star read for me. It's disgusting and is just another layer of the bullshit misogynistic and abusive themes that are throughout the entire book. I can't believe people like this.

honestly this book seemed like a wattpad book at the start. like a typical oh poor girl gets taken in by a rich man and now she has to live with his five sons, woah! it was a pain to get through the first parts because the guys were so stubborn in opening up to ella, but i learned that they had their own reasons of not trusting ella. the times where they discussed about their late mothers were very sad. i liked the moments that displayed them vulnerable. like their strong walls and personas broke down to show how broken they were. there’s still a lot of mystery towards many of the royals, especially reed. i hated the ending. i’m used to good endings, stand alone book endings, or endings that wrapped up the story that satisfied me. but here it was just either an enormous misunderstanding or a big explanation to be done as i start the second book in the series. honestly i like easton and ella’s friendship better than reed and ella’s relationship. maybe it’ll change but right now, easton’s my fav character :) love that dude. this book was weird, but i liked the overall concept.

this book was corny but entertaining. the dad was a bit creepy in many scenes, despite that not being the intention. i liked the boys, and i liked the FMC. i appreciated that she was very independent... i probs won't read book 2, because the ending was seriously like ???? i read the sample and i'm not a fan of OW drama (especially one who's so cartoonish).

2019 re-read.

jesus h christ, this book is a dumpster fire. i'm dropping my original rating from 4 stars to 3 because jfc. reed isn't as stellar as my memory served; he's pretty shitty. easton's got his issues but he's the only royal that i presently care about.

i wanted some mindless reading in the midst of my hectic month and i definitely found it here. it's every bit as much of a soap opera that i remember.

2017 read.

Unfortunately, I'm giving this four stars only because of how often I was so completely and utterly livid with the ridiculousness of the way things played out. The way Reed treats Ella in the beginning is quite literally unforgivable, but she's so starry-eyed for him that it's okay and the asshole level is merely a "well he's actually sensitive and sweet-" kind of bullshit that is completely crumbled at the end. This makes literally no sense whatsoever, but it was good. Great. I'm definitely going to delve into the next two.

So. Much. Happens.
