The movie was certainly better.
Better thought out and with scenes that really hit. I still got some enjoyment out of reading this book, but the movie was just so much more emotional. The characters more loveable.

And there were some weird scenes written in here to be honest. Like the part with Knox and Chris and the scene where Keating shows questionable photos to some teenage boys. The movie came first and had some great scenes that weren't put in the book but they added these weird and uncomfortable ones??? Like, just no.

fast-paced
I just really, really do simply not understand the point of this book.

First of all it was so incredibly boring and just so fast paced and a whirl of nothing. And I have to say that I was so excited to finally read this book and I ended up being tremendously disappointed.

Secondly the sexism?? Not a single female character in this book was anything more than a decoration for the story, they had no character, no personality and that one scene where Mr Keating used pictures of WOMEN WEARING LINGERIE!!?!?!? to distract his students, like wait a fucking minute what?

Thirdly what was with that weird borderline SA scene at the party, and not to mention that after that it was barely adressed. Like yeah omg thank you sm for coming to my school to harass me with flowers and a love poem, even though we haven´t had a SINGLE conversation in our lives. But yk I forgive you. And even though I am lierally taken that was so cute. ( They proceed to kiss )

And to our last point, a chery on top of this review, the characters were all so flat and straight up unlikeable. I do not even know half of their names and I DO NOT CARE.

The only person I cared about literally got killed like wth at least guve me his thoughts while doing this. It was so emotionless and terribly written. I even had thought to myself OUT OF JOKE that this might happen but wtf literally why would this happen?

I just remembered another thing that I´m really mad about which was the teacher okay: What was his role in this book? Was I supposed to like him? He literally did nothing when Neil asked him for help nor did he teach his students anything. Also, why did he get thrown out of the school that so did not make any sense.

While i loved the movie and could watch it on repeat for days on end… this book disappointed me. It truly just feels like a simplified, less emotional version of the movie. I feel like the fast pace didn’t match the slowness of the movie and a story with so much detail and necessary slowness doesn’t translate into a book very well in this case. Not to mention the disgusting way the teacher and students think about women. The sexualization and assault of women made me dislike the book even more.
