Jake Tapper

I thought this was okay, but I probably would have been better off reading instead of listening.

I am truly a fan of Jake Tapper, the Journalist. Unfortunately, the book had a great beginning that really grabbed me, but then faltered and meandered for almost all of the rest of the book.

The story could have been a great combination of politics, history and intrigue set in 1950’s Washington D.C., but…it fell short in story development.

After a slow start, and having some difficulty with the hopping back and forth in time at first , I found it a gripping tale of intrigue in the 50’s and 60’s era of USA politics.

I really wanted to like this book because I like Jake tapper but it just didn’t grab me. (Maybe bc what’s going on in Washington is so much worse than this in reality...)

Too Much Research?

I'm sure it is tempting when writing historical fiction to include ALLLLLL of the information found during the research phase, but there's realism and then there's Forrest Gump and this tipped into the latter. There was also a character who was a little too Magical Negro for my taste, and the main character was pretty unlikeable.

Tapper should stick to his day job.

Really slow start with a half decent ending

Really slow start with a half decent ending

Can't recall exactly when I read this. I do recall it being a page turner, couldn't put it down. I don't really have a thing for cars, but no one was driving a Ford Mustang in the early 1950's.

Great combination of politics, history and intrigue set in 1950's Washington, DC.

I wasn't sure I was liking this one at the beginning, but, boy oh boy, when the story took off, I was ALL IN!
