This was a sweet romance based on the trope in the title. I really loved both leads, and Iām a sucker for a good geeky lead in a romance.

Heat Level: Low making out scenes, but mainly just kissing. Little to no petting.
I needed a book to cheer me up after the last book I read and this one did the job for the most part. I would not say that this is an amazing story, but it was funny with a dash of serious and a sweet romance. This series is about a friend group who live in the same house together and one of them (Sam) is a writer of a love advice column. She gets a book deal to write about love and she needs some "cliches" to write about so she asks her roommates to go out and find themselves some love so she can write about it. Hence, the title of the series and also each book in the series is supposed to represent a chapter in this character's book. They are interspersed with advice column entries where the character answers Dear Dr. Love inquiries. The problem with this approach is how incredibly unbelievable it is. Sam needs some chapters so now all her roommates are falling in love... at the same time... full on head over heels love. It's pretty convenient. š
So this book in particular is about Abby who has a crush on her best friend's twin. Bet you didn't see that coming. It felt pretty insta-love and things move really fast. However, the two characters have known each other for years prior to the events of this book. Abby is over-the-top quirky, not like other girls, etc. She didn't really bother me though. I found her somewhat funny and I liked her oomph. Her insecurities seem to come and go as they please and are based on some shit that went down in high school. She had two notes: quirky and insecure. Her love interest Zane was .... like a cardboard cut-out. I didn't really feel anything for him, which was disappointing. However, when they inevitably get together it was cute, but still over the top.
There were some things that happened in the plot that didn't make really seem logical to me. The third act really didn't make any sense. Abby's reason for breaking apart from Zane was so confusing that I had to reread it because I didn't really understand what happened. Even after the reread, I still didn't get what she was so upset about, so that could have been handled better. Somehow though I still found the romance sweet and the book a nice palate cleanser overall.
One other thing I want to mention that I really didn't like seeing was the "girl hate." Aren't we done with this yet? Abby hates on another woman because she's beautiful and tall and has big boobs. Once she gets to know her, she finds that she's smart and sweet and friendly. Imagine that... someone not living up to the stereotype you put on them. I'm just so tired of this crap in romances. I will say that Abby does kind of backpedal and say "oh she's nice" etc, but the fact that it's in here at all was totally unnecessary. (This is where my misogyny content warning comes from - that's what this boils down to is just hating on women.)
