This has been my walking/commuting audiobook for the past few days, and, during this time, I didn’t want to get to my destination. You hear the outline and you think it’s going to be another high school bullying story, but it’s not. I loved it.
Coincidentally, and without knowing that a character in this book suffers from the same affliction as Dr. Sacks, I read Sacks’s The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat this week as well, and the two books have significantly increased each other’s impact on me.
The audiobook performance is amazing. Both performers do a brilliant job.

I've read 60 pages and found this website, looked at the reviews and it seems like it's not the book for me. Dropping.
I liked the book, for the first part it felt like I was being coerced to read it, like you know in middle school when they would make you read a book and sometimes it was a good book but the fact that you’re reading it because of school makes you not want to read it? Yea that’s how I felt when I was reading the first 100pages of this book. Would I recommend it to someone? Yes, will I ever reread it? Absolutely not, don’t want that feeling anymore, but again there’s some parts that are actually really good and there’s others that are like meh.

picked this off the shelf at random, just before the library closed, and immediately honestly had no expectations but wow was i blown away. this begged to be read, to be absorbed, and it truly is such a captivating book. libby and jack are wonderful characters, if (and sometimes because hehe) they are a little jerky and asshole-y. i loved libby in particular, she is so full of spunk and personality- really built to be the main character. and jack has a lot of room to grow and makes some questionable choices (the whole phone call really annoyed me) but then again, he’s a teenager learning to live. and even though they aren’t perfect people, i think it makes perfect sense. and i appreciate that.
of course, there are flaws. and of course, there were points that irked and icked. but i don’t think it got too much in the way of the experience. i also particularly liked how sensitively the characters were written- despite the content revolving almost entirely around appearances and perceptions, i think it found a nice balance for itself.
on that note, i am ending with a psa that the blurb is truly awful and i am so glad i didn’t read it before reading the book, since it actively makes me want to unread it.
