Chuck Buda's PAY UP AND DIE is fucking disturbing. Buda writes with the brutality of Edward Lee minus all the gore. His storytelling is as bleak as Brian Keene's minus the paranormal. Buda's horror is reality based and that makes it hit you in the gut.
You can't possibly prepare yourself for what this story has in store for you. First it plays to your heart strings. Then it cuts them and finally it kicks you on the balls after you've already bled out. You can't see it coming. Its too real and it's not fair.
To be honest, the writing can be rough and the edges at times. There are some akward POV changes within the prose that can her you loose from the story. A sprinkling of other quirks pop up here and there but if you can forgive the rookie mistakes and let the story wash over you, you'll be in for a horrible treat.
This story goes to a difficult place. Its daring and can come off as hokey of not executed properly. Chuck Buda sells it like a master. If you can take it, you're going to love PAY U .AND DIE.
