Overhyped. I can see how this might be a decent introductory to horror for a young person, maybe, but it was not at all what I expected from the amount of hype this has received. It’s written very simply, and the narrator speaks too modern/not of the time the story takes place. The story breaks in odd places. And worst of all, it was incredibly predictable and quite over-explained.

Read it in one go. Retelling of The Fall of the House of Usher by Poe. It was really gross and sufficiently creepy. I liked it.

It was unsettling, grotesque and made me scratch at my skin… Exactly what I’ve been wanting to read lately and I loved it. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
