A great spooky book for autumn! Sometimes I laughed and sometimes I shuddered in disgust. I adored the narrator and their/van backstory. Looking forward to reading more Kingfisher :)

I loved this take on Poe's classic, the mystery of Madeline's illness and the lively personality of the narrator kept me glued to the page. I don't usually go for horror but I love Kingfisher's fairy tale-type work so much that I'm reading all her stuff, and I enjoyed this one a lot. Her protagonists are so real, and very informed by their lived experiences, and Alex is no exception. I read it in one sitting (on a plane), it's a quick little page turner.
