I thought it was just a fine book. Nothing particularly remarkable or offensively boring. The characters weren't really deeply fleshed out, which made it harder to care about them -- something needed in a horror book. I like adventure horror (i.e. like the 2005 movie The Descent, settings where characters are camping, hiking, etc.) and while I wouldn't shout about this book from the rooftops, I wouldn't tell someone not to read it.

The thriller that every adventurer needs to read.
The book starts with the discovery of their bodies, and it follows through the journey that got them there. Clay, Sylvia, Dylan, and Luke head into the Kentucky wilderness hoping to make rock climbing history. Almost immediately, the woods seem to be different and sinister. When the dog doesn't want to move forward, you listen to the dog. But they press on as the valley invites them in.
This book will reel you in and make you scared to go camping. As another Kentuckian, it hit even closer to home.

Did you grow up watching the Blair Witch Project? If you did and loved the vibe, then this is the perfect book for you!
Inspired by the Dyatlov Pass Incident, this book is a pure descent into madness where everyone becomes suspicious of the others.
The novel recounts the timeline of what happened. As the hours go by, you get this crawling creepy sensation getting under your skin. You feel the characters beginning to lose it. You know the feeling when you're home alone and suddenly all sounds are terrifying? This is what happens with this book!
Sentient forest, paranoïa, accidents, resentfulness... * Surprisingly *, this book hasn't cured my fear of heights. It only worsened it. I'm never gonna go rock climbing. Enven less in the wilderness, in the middle of nowhere.

Clay is currently doing a PhD in Geology and just flew over an untouched spot. One of his old friend, Dylan, is an Instagram influencer doing rock climbing for a living. He needs someone to climb the wall so he can write his dissertation. It took a bit to get into this at first, but once I hit about 1/3 of the way through I had to read until the end. I would have liked a little more revealed about the origins and history of the valley, but overall a good solid read and a wild ride.
