I love stories like this, and it provided the creepiness I was hoping for. I've seen some reviews saying it was loosely based on Dyatlov Pass, but it reminded me so much more of Kris Kremers & Lisanne Froon, and I've always been very spooked by their story. This book is eerie and gory (two of the best things to be), and while I feel that it lost steam at times, overall, I had so much fun listening to it. I haven't read a physical copy, but I think this one might be better on audio just based on the path of the story. I would loooove to see a movie or limited series!

It wasn’t grabbing me, so I went and read some reviews and they didn’t convince me that it was going to get better.

I’m surprised this is a debut. A wild, stomach-churning, and dizzying ride, that ends with just the right note. Some parts were a bit like whiplash, but I think it was balanced out well enough that it kept me going. I couldn’t stop reading towards the end!
The author has mastered the horror genre and all its cliches. I can’t wait to read their next book.
And the dog lives! My headcanon is that Tabitha adopts him :3

This book started off with promise and then it just dragged on and on. By the end I was listening to it at 1.5 speed. At first you are on edge wanting to know what happens but then it’s just the same bs happening over and over again that seems like filler before it got to the point. 2⭐️

Wow all of the characters were immature. And the dog thing? Their dog gets lost in the woods and they search for an hour and then go climbing!?! CALL THE ASPCA. CALL THE DOG POLICE. Take the dog away from them. holy shit I wouldn’t be doing ANYTHING until I found my dog again. I’m still so mad about that.
The story was okay, entertaining - glad I borrowed from the library instead of buying it.

some very good gore in places but slow otherwise with a lot of boring repetition

The answer to the mystery is 'the magic place did it', plus a guy going Jack Torrence but less interesting
