it definitely is slow at the beginning, but once i really got into the book i could not put it down! i 100% recommend this if you love greek mythology, but i would also recommend grabbing a tissue or two!

There’s so much about this book that I want to love but I just can’t get into it. It feels a bit like you’re only getting half the information, you have to work to piece the story together as the world building and explanations are quick if they exist at all. It could really do with a glossary or a footnote when certain terms are used the first time to explain them better.
I’m hoping I can come back to this but at the moment it’s a DNF

Overall Thoughts:
⁕ The schematics of the bloodlines, family relations, and transfer of powers was so convoluted to me for such a large portion of the book. The chart provided helped a little bit but not entirely.

⁕ The plot is quest-based and driven more by physical action than character emotion and development. Consequently, the main heroes fell flat.

⁕ My favorite scene involved one of the Gods talking about her experience as a women and one of the only remaining "old gods." It was a perspective that we don't usually get in modern day retellings of Greek mythology and one of the strongest moments of emotional vulnerability in the book.

⁕ Yes, there were some plot twists. No, I did not see them coming.

I was unsure how I felt about this until about halfway. It is a great take on the ancient Gods and myths. I liked the way it intertwined our reality with the legends. It wasn't until about halfway through that I felt like the twists and intrigue picked up enough for me to get really into it.

Lore escaped a world where the Gods aren't legends. The Agon comes every 7 years. Kill a God, take their power. Her family was killed in that world of constant fighting for power and finding death. She has been trying to avoid it. Now a God comes to her for help and she has to decide if she wants to avenge her family.

There are so many secrets and a lot of twists. The twists in the latter half of the book are what saved it for me. I got really into it with the brutal combat, the deadly encounters,  intense secrets, and major twists. I loved how much the twists changed the story. One secret chabges everything. A really good take on mythology for me.
