This was spectacular. The vampire/vampire hunter relationship I needed.

If the initial idea of the characters didn't come after watching the animated series of Castlevania I'll eat my hat.

That said, I really liked it overall, even if I found the ending a bit weak and the plot a bit too convoluted to make full sense (or needing a lot of luck not to collapse on its own first) or not to be obvious if you have the info. And the romance gets weaker after they get together, so I was a little disappointed about that.
In general, the balance between the main plot, the romance, the characters' growth and the rest is a little strange.

Xiaodan is probably the character that I found flatter in the triad: nothing terrible I just would have preferred that her complexity not only be due to her powers/the taboos about them, while I only have compliments for the rest of the characters/cast.

The protagonist who lacks a sense of danger, or is always ready to sacrifice themselves, because they lack self-love or trauma, is always one of my favourite tropes, so Remy is <3

It's recommended for vampire lovers, some very cool goryish descriptions, and cool characters & setting.

Started off a bit slow with a fair amount of info dumping, BUT I really cared about the main characters. I was very invested in this story because of the characters and it had some fun gore, action, romance in the way that only vampire books can achieve.

there’s a lot that i love here—expansive worldbuilding, vampire and human courts, political intrigue, and well-developed characters! ❤️ i got hooked from the first ~75 pages.

i also really enjoyed the tension between the 3 main characters (we love polyamory here) but i will say, i can’t quite believe  how smitten they are with the MC. much of the initial attraction especially for Zidan happened off-page. their three-way relationship felt like it jumped from 15 to 200 real quick. i didn’t 100% mind this because i do like each character enough individually to support the relationship 😂

i will say though that the storytelling struggled to juggle the different plot lines—the Rot, Remy’s mother, romance, First Court revival, everyone’s backstories—and  it did feel very segmented especially when thing started coming to a head.

all in all, i did enjoy reading this and i’m excited to read the sequel!!
