I bought this solely because of the title. I didn't know it was a memior. I'm not the biggest fan of memiors and I was hoping for more information on the Duterte's regime and how social media helped the leader gain power over the people. there was a bit of this. i'm too sick to write out a full review

An interesting and inspiring read. I found it tough going at times as there is a lot of information to digest but really informative and insightful.

An interesting look at how journalists in the Philippines tracked the use of social media as a method of dispersing disinformation in their country and the long-term consequences of the under-regulation of tech companies. Ressa jumps around in the timeline of events a lot, which made it difficult to follow at times, but there was a lot to think about here!

A stunning memoir from Ressa. I knew of the Nobel Laureate's work but not much of her background and history. I loved how the book was written - the interweaving of personal stories and emotions along with beautiful but also difficult moments in Ressa's personal and professional life. I didn't realise how extensive her work and research was regarding journalism and technology. Inspiring and with searing clarity, Ressa highlights the importance of a free press for our democracies.

I'm sure Maria Ressa was a great journalist, but she's not a very good memoirist. This is less of a memoir and more of a boring text spouting facts and opinions about the role of social media in spreading fake news.

Although Ressa does mention her childhood upbringing, career, and accomplishments, it was done so in a self-congratulatory way with no introspection or self-reflection.
