This was a reread. I decided to reread it before journeying down the path that is A Court of Silver Flames. It's just as good rereading it as it is reading it the first time. I just love this author and series so much. It ranks up their with Harry Potter for me as far as favorites go.

no because why did her bowels turn watery three times

4-4.5

Not too sure how I felt about certain things but onto the next! :)

I delayed reading this book for as long as I could but my goodness I don't know why I waited !!

Is this book insanely good? No.
But I’m also not an insanely good person.

I finally fell for the hype and I am not convinced we all read the same book? Maybe it’s because I just finished the Fourth Wing books that this one just lacked the wow factor for me. This was not the hyped up book I was expecting. It was slow, boring, and the FMC made me want to poke my own eye out. If you know me, you’ll know… but to those saying it’s the best thing you’ve ever read, i have questions. Maybe I’m desensitized but whatever.

It was painstakingly slow. I’m not even sure what the courts even looked like because the imagery was poor. I had to take to fan art to get any semblance of what the setting should be. The author should be able to do this with the descriptions, sadly it fell short. This was a huge drawback as I couldn’t even picture the scene. It was hard to get into this book as a result. The first 60% was so boring! There was hardly any action or adventure. Because of that, I knocked two stars off. The fairy and shape shifting didn’t bother me like I thought it would, but the lack of action and adventure from a fantasy book really ruffled my feathers.

Feyre… she was so irritating and annoying. She doesn’t do what she’s told for her own good and constantly needs to be rescued. She goes from being the provider of her family to a damsel in distress. Boring. Her character alone brought the star rating down another whole star. She was just so unlikable. I eye rolled every time she made a choice. When he shipped her back, I was thinking “yes! You’re annoyed and done with her too”. Got real excited for a few chapters. Also, she suddenly loves him? No. Get out of here with that, there was hardly any interaction that would warrant those feelings. She only loved him because her ass was taken care of in a massive house. You will never convince me otherwise. Girly just wanted a nice home and played the ‘love’ card to keep the game going.

The action picked up in the last 150 or so pages. Unfortunately it just wasn’t enough to gain a star back. Too many wasted pages prior set my opinion of this book and nothing was going to change that. I found there was a whole lot of repetition that could have been cut out. The ending was pretty predictable in my opinion. If I had read this when it first came out not knowing it would be a series, I wouldn’t even consider reading the rest. I’m going to attempt book 2 with an open mind and hopefully be more pleased. I’m hoping book one was the worst and it gets better from here.

Ahhh I see why the girlies like this now.
