i flew through FOR SHE IS WRATH. this one hit so many of my fantasy sweet spots: a unique magic system (bonus points for dark magic!!), unapologetically badass women, strong friendships, and an enemies‑to‑lovers turned back to enemies‑to‑lovers subplot (yes, that's right).

what really stood out, though, was the exploration of revenge. varga doesn’t shy away from showing how righteous anger, when left unchecked, can warp you into the very image of the cruelty you once despised. i really enjoyed seeing our characters grapple with their emotions throughout the progression of this book.

the ending has a reveal that genuinely surprised me, but the overall trajectory was totally in line with what i’d expected. no hat-tip to wild plot twists, but still satisfying.

overall, if you’re craving a fast‑paced, standalone YA fantasy with atmospheric dark magic and fierce female leads then this is a great pick!!

Great story, female protagonist who is a master of the sword is always a winner for me. Is vengeance, revenge worth seeking if it will cost you everything? I like the djinn magic and the Arabian setting.

Some unnecessary swearing and a touch more spice than I normally read, but nothing explicit.

It took a while to get going for me, but it was quite fun.

This was such a great read!! It was so easy to keep picking up the book and continue the story!

I loved the characters and the different relationships, though mainly Dani and Maz!

Initially, I didn’t like the flashbacks - I don’t often like them in books - but they grew on me as I read and I loved seeing the insights into Dani and Maz’s relationship!

The plot was well paced and nothing felt rushed or ignored - I was able to see some plot points before they were brought up, but it was satisfying to see that I was right!

It has great imagery and I would definitely recommend it!

I didn't know this book was a retelling of The Count of Monte Christo and because I've never read that, I do not care.

I did not like or dislike this book overly much but it was very readable. The parts of this book that reflected the Pakistani culture were the best parts of this, as were the reflections of the past.

Overall, not my favorite but it is a gorgeous book from my Fairyloot collection.
