This was a Count of Monte Cristo retelling mixed with some Pakistani mythology which was cool.

“The ones closest to you will betray you the most.”

The FMC Dania is stuck in prison after being betrayed by the one she loves. She eventually escapes a la Count of Monte Cristo style and on her road to revenge, Dania lists her people to kill daily like Aria did in GoT. It’s basically her mantra for the day.

The tropes in this are enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers as well as only one bed towards the end.

“The problem when someone you loved betrayed you, was that you had a lifetime of good memories with them you had to examine in a different light.”

“I want my fucking cat back.”

I did not guess that twist though. That’s a lot of hate to carry your whole life.

A very well done revenge story that had a lot of heart and great themes! Action-packed as well, can’t wait to see more from Emily Varga

I really wanted to like this book but it fell so flat for me. Maybe it was just my own expectations coming into it but for a book titled “she is wrath” I thought we’d experience more of her wrath…a lot of plot points seemed extremely convenient and the ending was incredibly underwhelming. Repetitive and didn’t deliver the impact I think the author was going for. I could keep going about what I disliked but I honestly just want to be done with it. On to better books 🤷🏼‍♀️

A case of the concept being better than the execution. A feminist retelling of Monte Cristo seemed so compelling, but I thought the magic system was underdeveloped and the entire second half of the book felt completely rushed. I wouldn’t have minded this book being a bit longer to have those elements more fleshed out.

Haven’t read such a well-paced, compelling fantasy novel in so long! And the romance was so well done. Sure, its got classic story beats and tropes typical to the genre, but I was fully engaged the entire time. Kudos to Emily Varga on an excellent debut; I will certainly be looking forward to more from her.

acc LOVED this book.
