This was so freaking cute! I wouldn’t have guessed it at first but Jobaki and Alussanai were the perfect pair for each other. Jo’s timid and shy character balanced out Alu’s wild and fearless one and it brought out the best in each of them.

I loved watching Jo’s progress as she learned to accept her power and her place in life and the coven. She was difficult for me to relate to at first because I’ve never been one to avoid conflict but after two centuries of doing so, I can imagine it would be difficult to unlearn.

What happened with Alu’s growth was amazing. She really helped Jo, championing her to be stronger, but she herself learned a few things from Jo along the way that culminated in a very awesome result. Plus the moment with her brothers was so sweet!!

Alu, the dragon shifter lead, wants to spend time with Jo, the witch lead, because she wants to explore their mutual attraction. Jo has spent literal centuries hiding herself and being small and invisible so she’s not used to being noticed and isn’t quite sure what to do with Alu’s attention. Alu has been genetically modified so she literally doesn’t feel fear. Now they need to find balance together…

This novella is dual POV, well written, and an interesting non-human, female pairing. FF is not my preferred couple but I admit my greater issue is that this was only a novella compared to others in the series - both these characters have such big personalities and they did have challenges to overcome; I really felt they could have had a longer story. I enjoyed the character development both underwent - with Alu learning to feel fear and Jo learning to be brave and move past her fear. I really felt they balanced each other very nicely. I also enjoyed learning more about Jo’s people and seeing other characters from previous stories.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

Love this book. This is my first time reading a scifi romance where neither person is human and I loved it!
Powerful characters, self-discovery, and great relationship. Can't wait for more of this series!!
