Trash. Trash trash trash trash trash. It wasn't good. Most of the stories weren't even steampunk. They threw a couple fairies or magic powers in and called it good. I did finish it because I could always just skip to the next story when one was bad, but definitely wouldn't recommend it

I agree with most of the reviews on this page, some of these stories are "meh" and a couple are great. I loved Deadwood, Tick Tick Boom, and The Airship Gemini. Some of these stories have very little or nothing to do with steampunk. Still, I have a large teen population of steampunk readers at my library so I am glad to have another group of short stories to steer them toward.

A fairly good anthology.
Highlights included The Cannibal Fiend of Rotherhithe by [a: Frewin Jones|4431689|Allan Frewin Jones|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1309647387p2/4431689.jpg]; that was just creepy and really cool.
Also Under Amber Skies by [a: Maria V Snyder|445303|Maria V. Snyder|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1224476079p2/445303.jpg] and Tick, Tick, Boom by [a: Kiersten White|3027554|Kiersten White|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1254205920p2/3027554.jpg]. Chickie Hill's Badass Ride I didn't really find very steampunky, more horror, but was a good story.

I didn't at all like The Vast Machinery Of Dreams by Caitlin Kittredge. It was trying to hard to be clever, (it kept saying stuff like no, this is what really happened) failed miserably, and ended up just being a skim-read confusing muddle.
I also didn't like the endings to the siamese twins one - The Airship Gemini - or King of the Greenlight City. However, the magic in Greenlight City was worth the read.

Review from Black and Blue Ink

From animatronic love, to cannibalism, World War 2 references, and back to our beloved vampires, Corsets and Clockwork has something for every book lover, each with some steampunk flavoring to add new excitement.

I love a good sample plate. Have you even been to a restaurant and asked for a sample dessert plate. Where they give you all kinds of variations of cheesecakes, sponge cakes, puddings, and pies to try out and pick what is to your liking. Well, that is exactly what this anthology was like; a sample plate, begging for the reader to pick their favorites and look into ordering something more from each author.

I think the steampunk genre is one that I will love to read more books on. Who would have thought one of my favorite genres such as science fiction, and my least favorite genre of historical could mingle and create an exciting, new, and extremely interesting mix. The short stories in this book are quick romances, but the amount of depth that is woven into these little stories is astonishing. Though they were short, I felt like I knew a lot of the characters much more than I would have expected, despite the length of these books, I felt like the characters were as developed as a 1000 page novel and so were their plots. The way the authors was able to map out the scenes really made it seems like each short story was it's own, yet they were all cohesive in the way they all had that steampunk commonality about them.

Of course, there were individual stories that I favored, and some that in my opinion were not so great. Among my favorites are The Cannibal Fiend of Rotherhithe by. Frewin Jones, Wild Magic by. Ann Aguirre, Code of Blood by. Dru Pagliassotti, Under Amber Skies by. Maria V. Synder (favorite), and Chickie Hill's Badass Ride by. Dia Reeves. As you can see I did like a lot of the stories in this anthology. They were a great introduction into a new and exciting genre, as well as an introduction to new authors whose books I am no extremely excited to read!

Like many anthologies of its kind, "Corsets and Clockwork" does veer a little toward the *inconsistent* end of things, but not nearly as much as most. None of the stories are real clunkers, but there were a couple that stood out. Among others, Lesley Livingston's "Rude Mechanicals" had many things I love in any story: run down theaters, idealistic artists and finely-wrought automatons. Its ending hangs like a puppet on a wire, creating that breathlessness only short stories can provide. But then there was the one that REALLY stood out for me. Caitlin Kitteredge's "The Vast Machinery of Dreams", a clockwork Lovecraftian masterpiece, that doesn't function as a traditional Twilight Zonish punch-packing short story, neither as a self contained novel chapter, but instead it functions as a truly "Weird Tale" in the best possible sense of the term. It's the one story that made me question the Young Adult sticker on the library's binding. It's the story I liked so VERY much that my review went from three to four stars.

I should start by saying I have not read steampunk before. So I chose this thinking some short stories might be a good way to "get my feet wet".

The first story, Rude Mechanicals, was just okay. I really enjoyed (and wanted more of!) The Cannibal Fiend of Rotherhithe and Wild Magic. Deadwood was fun with a neat little twist. Code of Blood I couldn't keep my attention. I liked The Clockwork Corset, but just as I thought it was getting really good, it ended. And after The Airship Gemini, I decided to drop it.

I enjoyed many of the stories, though some of them seemed barely steam punk. I'm new to the genre, though, so what do I know? I enjoyed reading stories by some of my favorite YA fiction authors. I plan on looking up books by some of the other ones!

ehhh. couldn't really get into any of the stories. The first one was good, and creepy. But I just kinda skimmed the rest.
