This book starts out with my very own personal nightmare.
Jonah, a Baton Rouge detective, comes home from his shift and finds his home ransacked and his son, Drew, abducted.
The guys from the FPA find him rather quickly, completely unharmed and this case turns out to be a cyber crime case (Drew accidentally stumbled across something on the Darknet). Drew kind of finds his mentor with Cooper, a hacker for the FPA.
Jonah and Cooper get to know each other better. Jonah doesn’t want to have a relationship but we know how those situations end, right?

I love this series so much, but this one wasn't quite my favorite. There was just too much talk about white hat/black hat hackers and things like that. I know it was important to the story, but as someone who is familiar with hackers and the dark web there was just too much explaining. I do love the way Jonah and Cooper got together and how well they worked through the mystery together and how good Cooper was with Jonah's son Drew. Loved it and highly recommend this whole series, can't wait for the next one.

What worked in this book is there's a lot of action, and figuring it out kept me reading when the characters and stereotypes made me want to toss it.

If i thought the first book had a dose of misogyny, it was cemented by this one. Why can't this writer write women in a decent way? It's disappointing. And strange how it all comes down to their bad parenting and not the neglectful fathers in this one.

Another negative point is the development of the romance. I just didn't feel it in this one. It felt as if most of the development happened in exposition in the conclusion, and that is not great writing.

There isn't a single book in this series that I disliked. I couldn't put this down. I really like the bit of crime, mistery part of the plot and the romance of course. The plot was really engaging, it includes a lot about how trusting little kids are ofc since they still haven't seen all the dangers in the world, the hacking skills and the excellent realism. The character development was great (not that I expected anything else considering the previous books) so you get to really care about the characters and the book overall was extremely engaging.
