My only issue with this book was that it was far too engaging and far too short.

As a student of history I have the feeling, sometimes a certainty, that the information I'm being given is somehow slanted. That there is a bias where, while core information might be correct, the approach has some personal goal.

This book utterly avoids that by having the primary information as illustrations alongside the text exploring it. The author worked with the amazing Dawn Dewey at the Wright State University Archives and they did a great job.

The brilliance of the book is that it goes under the legends and headlines. There is a much wider demographic vision as a truer expression of Dayton in 1913 is shown. It honors those who famously helped, but also those who quietly helped. Who have sadly been far more forgotten.

The book does focus on the lesson of 1913, that of the need for community and collaboration. While on point, it is widely talked about in resources if the time, it is sharply relevant now.

This is a great read and wonderful reference. Pick it up if you have the chance.
