This is exactly what I want in a mystery, my brain is scrambled. I was so shocked to see all of the mixed reviews after finishing this. I'm seeing people not like it because it strayed pretty far from the synopsis, but that is exactly why I loved it! The description only gives away that there are people in a library when suddenly there's a woman's terrified scream. The catch: one of the people in the library is the murderer.

It's just vague enough to keep me excited. There's so much more plot and story than what the description gives us. I never knew what to expect. I was constantly changing my theories and never 100% confident about who to trust. This is written in a story within a story format. The scream in the library storyline is actually a manuscript and it alternates between one chapter of that and emails from a friend giving feedback/commentating on the chapter. I really loved the feedback chapters (unpopular opinion?). They even took a disturbing twist that I didn't expect.

I had so much fun reading this. Couldn't put it down. The author ends each chapter in a way that you just have to keep reading and the interweaving of the two storylines was so smart and well written. I do have a few questions looking back, but I can't give this less than 5 stars it was just too good.

It is so slow and not as intriguing as I would hope it to be as a murder mystery.

Genius framework and intriguingly layered. And although I’m sure the ending spawned hundreds of interesting interpretations, I found it unsatisfying in comparison to the rest of the novel.

I enjoyed this read. The writing style was different than anything else I have read before. A story hidden within a story. It was unique and unconventional. I enjoyed the letter aspect.

4 strangers in the library hear a scream that connects them and gets them talking to each other. The 4 quickly become friends. The scream turns out to be from a girl who was murdered and the friends become a team working to find out what happened (Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys anyone?).

I enjoyed the way the author would write the story of the mystery and then the letter after each chapter from Leo talking about what happened within the chapter. This story was a fun whodoneit and I enjoyed the journey finding out who the culprit was. And boy was I surprised!
