Did I enjoy the story? Yes.
Did I enjoy the audiobook? Questionable.

Okay, so here I am, continuing with my 2024 book challenge and I am trying to take advantage of every moment I have to consume books, whether it be on my Kindle or audiobook. The Carolina Comets series has been selected as audiobooks, which I find harder to review and rate because, not only do I need to take into consideration the story, but I also need to evaluate the performance. I think it is only fair that the ratings be separate on these two topics.

For the story: 4 stars
This is the story of Collin Wright, a pro hockey player for the Carolina Commets and Harper (can't remember her last name). We start the story at the endish of summer, and Collin is returning to Carolina after visiting his family in Kansas during the post-season. He was trying to lay low since he was responsible for his team being eliminated from one of the final games for the Stanley Cup and then he got into a little PR situation when he had a small fight in a bar. During his road trip (from hell) went from bad to worse, he met Harper, who decided to give him a ride home for the remaining 4-hour drive. Creepy and scary? Yes, but they hit it off and no one was a serial killer :)
Harper, not a sports person, had no clue who Collin was and just thought he was a cute and nice guy who needed a lift home. They hit it off during their long road trip but parted ways when they made it home. Both regretted not asking the other for each other's number.
However, fate would have it that the respective friends of both Harper and Collin convinced each of them to join a dating app. Destiny came knocking on their door when they matched. Well, Collin recognized Harper from her profile pic and did not want to let the opportunity pass for a second time. Harper was absolutely clueless about who she had been matched to. However, they chated for a few days/weeks via the app and ity-bity fireworks were going off between them. They finally agreed to have a date together; Harper was still oblivious that her online match-up was the same hitchhiker to whom she offered a ride. And wouldn't you know it, the day before their date, she finds out the truth. While she is pissed at first, she understands the reason that Collin was so secretive about his real identity and she gives him a chance. Harper and Collin hit it off big time. They date for a while, keeping it casual and agreeing that their relationship isn't going to be something serious.
However, both end up developing deep feelings for the other and, while Collin is open to admitting it and taking the relationship forward, Harper freaks out (due to childhood trauma with relationships) and they end up calling it off. That is until Harper realizes the mistake that she made and has to make amends with Collin to get the relationship back.

The story is a sweet love story, with a bit of a rom-com feel. There are some good LOL moments, especially with Harper and her BFF, Ryan. The spice level was good...with a decent mild kick. There was a third act break-up but we could see that they would end up together. This is your typical "Made for Netflix" chick-flick.

The audio portion of the storytelling would be a 3-star rating at best. I think this is actually a book I would have preferred to read rather than listen to. Tim Paige (Narrator) and Callie Dalton (Narrator) were good. They had lovely voices, performed the dialogue pieces well and were correct with pacing and expression. However, that was it. It was good, nothing memorable. Nothing to write home about. It didn't make me feel more connected to the story or the characters. It didn't provoke emotion when listening to it. I was indifferent to the audio performance. As it is, I find it difficult to get hooked on audiobooks. I think the performance has to be done very well to fully immerse myself in the story. I didn't feel that with the performance by Tim or Callie. I think I could have connected more, had I read it myself.

I'm becoming a sucker for hockey reads! This one doesn't disappoint either! Fun, sexy, and cute, these 2 leave it all out there!

3.5
It would have been 4 but the break up thing threw me off …

It was cute! I liked the characters and the story was fun. My only complaint is it felt really short - like novella length - and I don’t think it actually *was* but maybe just not much happened?

I hate these covers but it was a fun read.

3.5

This was a good story. The characters were fun and interesting. It was a very character driven, so you get insight to the characters and their growth. It was a short read but good.

Oh WOW!!! Miss Hunter, you KILLED your first hockey romance!! I loved every syllable!
Just the right amount of steam, pop culture, and a flash of angst. You got yourself a hat trick!! (Did I say that right? I’m from Florida & I don’t know hockey)

These 2 will melt the ice!!

I am always a sucker for a hockey romance! I loved this book it was so cute! I binged the whole book in one go. I can't wait to read the rest!
