Ok. I thought I would switch it up and read a cozy mystery. I have read the previous books in this series, but it might be time to put this series out to pasture. I was literally questioning myself the whole time I was reading this. It was over explained and clunky. Things were repeated and explanations were added that didn’t need to be. It was like she had a word count to hit and turned a sentence into a paragraph. I dunno. No real intrigue, and some of the recipes were… interesting. The recipe in the title is made literally with store bought pillsbury cinnamon rolls. I’m not sure I need a recipe for that. Thanks though. But that kind of explains the whole book, doesn’t it?

Hannah Swensen is back to solve her 28th mystery at this point. Some dbag drunk cheater fisherman that stars on a fishing show was murdered (you mean it wasn’t natural causes? Yes. That is the next line in the book. You’ve solved 27 other mysteries somehow Hannah. Use your dang brain). No one seems super sad he’s dead, but the killer needs to be caught. Leave it to the baker to step in and solve the case for the cops, just like the other 27 times!

It’s time for another visit at the beautiful lake Eden. With a big fish competition taking place, Hannah sets aside her usual cookie baking to have some fun with pastries while helping the local Inn. The event is bringing all kinds of big names and lots of excitement to the lake. All things seem to be going wonderfully until a TV host is found dead and now Hannah is not just baking pastries but fishing for clues as well.

Caramel Pecan Roll Murder is a lighthearted and fun cozy mystery with a romantic twist. As this is a long running series you could read as a standalone however I do think you will miss some of the Background and underlying meanings of things between certain characters events and actions. However if you are an avid reader and enjoy this sort of thing you will be able to figure out easily enough what is going on. With that said, I did enjoy this read. Hannah is a little off in this book and that is understandable. I do hope that she finds herself quickly and is able to get back to herself . The mystery of Caramel Pecan Roll Murder is what we’ve come to love from this author. Lots of twist interns with many red herrings to keep you guessing. Although I figured it out easily it was still an enjoyable read. I like that Andrea is becoming more of a present character in the stories. Visiting with Dick and Sally is always a good time. I am looking forward to seeing how this Hannah-Mike-Norman thing turns outs.

Once again Hannah Swensen is in the middle of a murder mystery that involves intrigue and a boatload of sweets. I found the storyline had many moveable parts and the recipes are ones to savoir. I only wish the ending didn't leave the reader on the edge of their seats - the saga continues!!

Caramel Pecan Roll Murder (Hannah Swensen, #28) by Joanne Fluke
Many of the regulars are at the Inn where a fishing tourneament is going on. Hannah and her sister are helping in the kitchen and bar when needed.
They stay in the same room there so there's no travel involved. Sally and Dick had the same agreement for Doc and others in town as well, to keep them nearby in case of an emergency.
Love when Hannah after cooking is able to spend time on the lake fishing. It's a lot different on the ocean but interesting to learn about the new words they use and what they mean.
As things go a body is found and women go into gathering clues to help solve the mystery of who killed the fisher.
Lots of recipes at the end of every other chapter. Of course it's never who you think it is.
Lot more characters invovled but they are easy to follow along. Mike is a bit off his game and we find out a bit more as the story goes along...
I received this review book from Kensington via Net Galley and this is my honest opinion.

This one felt to me like maybe Ms. Fluke got herself a ghost writer, and a really lousy one at that. I wanted to invent a drinking game for any time someone “began to smile” when doing anything (take an extra shot if it was from eating a baked good). The constant addressing someone by name got tiring, too. Sounds like dealing with a young child. “Hey, Hannah! What are you doing, Hannah? Can I have a cookie, Hannah?”
And Mike was very out of character. Suddenly deciding that he’s going to quit? Is he going to be the murderer in a future book or something? Give me a break.
I’d taken a hiatus from this series a while back, but came back after a few years out of desperation for something to read, and I thought the storylines were a bit better. Now…I think I’ll be going back on that hiatus and save my money, honestly. The series just isn’t as fun as it used to be. I think it’s about time to just wrap the series up and move on.
